Doctor‘s Visit

I think I had made share of doctors visits during this trip, so Ted finally stepped up and went to the doctor today. Reason: Ear pain.

Doctor #1, general family doctor: examine, questions, examine again, diagnosis: it is not an ear infection, it’s clogged and need to be flushed out

HNO clinic, doctor #2: examine, questions, flushing, vacuuming, flushing, examine: all is good, big plug removed! My hope of Ted’s hearing improvement is getting very high!

Throughout the whole procedure, Ted was very brave, he didn’t cry or act up, but he refused to take the lollipop that was offered at the end. He’d rather get the bounceball, but his little procedure didn’t qualify for such a big prize 🤪

The really big surprise at the end: the invoices. Doctor #1 charged Euro 10,72. Doctor #2 charged Euro 50,83. It is a miracle and would never ever happen in the US that you’re surviving a medical treatment with such low costs. 😆

Silent Night, Holy Night

Celebrating Christmas in Germany is amazing! The whole family comes together and has tons of food, good talks and lots of laughter! Unfortunately the whole „white Christmas“ thing didn’t work out very well, but the advantage was, that driving from one party to the next is easier and less stressful! And we had (still have) a lot of parties to attend 🥰

Christmas Eve was hosted by my nephew Daniel with his girlfriend Regina. They did an amazing job preparing, decorating and cooking for 14 people. It was so festive, cozy, wonderful and special – a beautiful celebration where all details were thought through and presented with love and care!

Followed on Christmas Day was a delicious brunch at my sisters house, a wonderful Christmas party at Jürgens house, a name-day party hosted by my niece Stephanie and …..

….. we’re not done yet! Celebrating Christmas in Germany is wonderful!!!

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

A very old Christmas tradition that my friend Lisa and I started was re-lived yesterday when we spent a day in Munich, eating, drinking, shopping – AND: visiting Christkindlmarkets! We did a mini-marathon (4!)-Christkindlmarkets frenzy

  • Christkindlmarket at the Marienplatz
  • Weihnachtsmarkt in the Residenz
  • Medieval Christkindlmarkt at the Wittelbacherplatz
  • Christkindlmarkt at the Münchner Freiheit in Schwabing

We had a lot of fun and ended the evening with a delicious dinner at „Shami“, a Vietnamese restaurant in Schwabing.

Regensburg – Christkindlmarkt

Riding the train is my favorite way of getting from one town to another. It is comfortable, stress-free and relaxing. And you can just sit there and watch the landscape roll by…

Or you can sleep! Anyway, as long as you wake up before your destination, everything is cool!

Our destination were the Christkindlmarkets in Regensburg and it was a very nice trip.

Germany – soccer

Despite the embarrassment of the German team at this worldcup, it was great fun to watch those game! My all-time favorite team was Morocco; I just loved their courage and enthusiasm for the game, their unusual strategies and fearlessness! Ending up with a 4th place was totally unexpected. Bravo!

Yesterday was the grand finale with Argentina against France, high-class soccer, high level technique and a pleasure to watch! Especially when it’s a combo package with a 4th advent tea & coffee party at my sisters house!

Cheers!

Spending so much time with Timo is a very nice thing! We haven’t seen each other for… maybe 9 months; or was it 10? Whatever it was, it was too long!

We spend time walking…

Cooking…

And visiting relatives…

Life is good!

I guess, somebody needs a break!

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas…

… but it doesn’t look like it. The weather predictions are for very, very cold weather today and tomorrow (-15C), and after that it will get warmer and warmer and warmer. Up to +15C! And by the time it’s Christmas, we can wear shorts again. I meant Ted can wear shorts again…

Since I had to work (end of the semester grading etc), Ted and Timo took an afternoon walk in the neighborhood and had fun at the playground, I guess…

Travel Month #7

So far, we got haircuts in Germany, Italy, Spain, Morocco (Ted only) and Greece (Edith only)

So far we got pickpocketed once: Friday, December 2nd, 2022 at 11.50am inside the tram #7 between the stations Marina Alimou and Edem in Athens

So far, we have 10566 visitors of our blog!

So far our favorite country was Morocco. Most surprising, most unique, most amazing and – by far – the cheapest! Think about dinner for two, with appetizers, wine, delicious entree => $10. sometimes $9!

Dessert at the YSL museum cafe in Marrakesh

So far, it looks like we have a new family member: Timo whipped up a miracle and found Dana! We all love her🥰

So far, we travel month #7 was the one with the most parties, family gatherings and pre- and after Christmas meetings!

Ted’s all-time favorite: Greek salad

So far, we haven’t been sick with Covid or the flu or any other bug 🤪

So far, during travel month #7 we moved around by airplane, train, ferry, taxi, bus, car, subway, tram, and a lot by foot – btw, my knee is doing very good!

So far, so good! We are doing great and keep on going…

Let it Snow…

Germany is like a winter wonderland and it keeps snowing! I just love the look of snow, the sound when walking on snow, the cheerful memories!

But maybe my soul is so happy, because Timo finally arrived! Having my sons around for Christmas is so rare these days and therefore so special!

Christkindlmarkt

Unfortunately Nico will not be able to join us this Christmas, which is very sad…..

Winter Wonderland

Germany is a Winter Wonderland and it is beautiful! Everything has a white cover, transforming dark winter sadness into nostalgic postcard motives. The cracking sound of steps on fresh snow remind me of my childhood. It is very romantic! And the best thing to do to top all this? Visit one of many Christkindlmarkets!

With my sister Petra, we spend a few hours at the Christkindlmarket in Ingolstadt to try some culinary highlights: smoked sausages with vinchgauer bread, flammbread, churros with dark chocolate sauce, roasted vanilla almonds and – of course – “Glühwein“ (muled wine) to keep you warm!

When it turns darker in the late afternoon, it gets even more romantic with all the lights bringing a sparkle to the frosty temperatures. It was a very nice afternoon with my favorite sister Petra.
