Signage is poor / non existent. Is it at the harbor, on board or inside your cabin, there are no signs, no information folders, when and where they offer food, etc. so be adventurous and have an open mind. Even if you don’t speak Greek or Italian, there will always be somebody who can speak English.
The temperature inside the ferries is very warm! Even in December, with chilling temperatures outside, be prepared to wear T-Shirts and Flipflops!
No Internet, unless to pay for it! So bring a book, your knitting project, sudoku, playing cards, etc. Watching the water is meditative, but after a while it might get boring…Watching Worldcup soccer games in the sports bar, with 20 truck drivers from all over Europe, is a nice distraction too!
The food on board is usually a buffet. Cafeteria style, cafeteria taste, cafeteria prices. Nothing special, but it helps, if you’re hungry! (Big portions of trucker food without taste)
The bigger ferries usually have a store onboard with some clothes, books, charger cables, sunscreen, etc. Expensive, but helpful!
Be aware that the time switches between Italy and Greece!
When you book a ferry online, pay attention on what exactly you book. I had to fill out both our names (Ted and I have different last names), birthdates, etc. and the website let me only book individual cabins for each of us. Not a cabin for 2, but 2 cabins for 1 each. When we checked in and I wanted to change that, it was too late. On board we tried again to change, which was possible, after they made sure we are married. But since we already had paid for 2 cabins, they couldn’t adjust the price (difference $350), but upgrade us to a luxe suite with free breakfast and lunch buffet.
