Bavaria in June – part 1

Asparagus. White asparagus. Delicious. Tasty. Healthy. a classic way to eat it is with melted butter, potatoes and ham. A surprising „first“ for me was to eat it as a dessert: caramelized asparagus with strawberries, vanilla ice-cream and whipped cream. And since I have a sweet tooth, I just love it!

This trip to Bavaria was only 10 days long, but I ate asparagus 4 times! Another favorite “first” was at the Kastaniengarten beergarden, where it was baked with cheese in a philo dough pocket. That was to die for! And another awesome way to eat it was with my bestie Wendl: asparagus, potatoes and breaded schnitzel. Yumm!

Bavaria in May – part 2

Parties are what my family loves! There is always an excuse to celebrate: Birthdays, namedays, retirement or good-bye parties. And when there is no official reason, they come together to barbecue, or afternoon coffee & cake. There is always something to celebrate!

But it is not always about eating and drinking: there is ping pong, archery, bike rides and walks, so the calorie input doesn’t show too much 🤪

Bavaria in May – part 1

Even a short 10-day trip to Bavaria does it’s magic: falling in love again. And again. And again! Every time I set foot on this beautiful area, the question pops up where my “home” is. Home, not like where I live and work. Not like where my sons are or my husband. Home means “Heimat”. And for many people, Heimat means where you were born, but it could also mean where you want to be buried.

When my brother Jürgen and I went for a bike ride with their e-bikes (my first time riding an e-bike – fabulous!), he showed me a tiny cemetery where he wants to be buried. That is Heimat, is it? It’s not that we are in a rush, but it is comforting to know your final destination I guess…..
