Iphofen

It is not Ibuprofen (according toTed), it’s called Iphofen, a 3500 people village in Frankonia, where my dear friend Jutta lives. And Jutta we visited the last 2 days and it was just so much fun!

I met Jutta at a birth preparation class 33 years ago when we – both big like whales – tried to learn how to squeeze those babies out of us. We immediately were best friends, not only because of our love to travel (6 weeks after my son was born we traveled to Tunisia, a year later to Bali, etc). Jutta and I have been best friends ever since and every time I’m in Europe I visit Iphofen, not Ibuprofen!

Reminiscing at Cafe Schwane, a flower shop / cafe that I know as long as I know Jutta was the first stop Monday afternoon!

We cooked a delicious dinner at her house, and caught up on a three year-Covid-caused-break. Fortunately the next day was a holiday, so Jutta, who is a fabulous goldsmith btw, suggested to go on a trip to the Nördlinger Ries, a meteor crater 150km south of Iphofen (see the separate post!). We had a great time visiting …..

1. Museum „Kulturland Ries“

2. Meteor Crater at Mount Ipf with the reconstruction of a Celtic village. It’s a little challenging to take photos of a crater that is 25km in diameter and 150m deep. The meteor was ~1000 m in diameter. (1/10 of the meteor that created the Golf of Mexico, which is the biggest meteor crater on earth, the Nördlinger Ries is the second biggest)

3. Abbey Neresheim or the Abbey of Saints Ulrich and Afra, Neresheim (German: Abtei Neresheim or Abtei der heiligen Ulrich und Afra) was founded in 1095 and is now a Benedictine monastery

Our second day with Jutta was spent in Iphofen, with a visit to the Marilyn exhibition at the Knauf Museum. It was very rewarding for me, since I had done quite a lot of research for my book (Fashion – who, when, why, what) and seeing lots of Marilyn Monroe’s clothes and accessories that I had mentioned in my book!

Before we left Iphofen we had a delicious lunch …

… followed by coffee and cake in front of Jutta’s store

What a great visit this has been! And for those of you in need of fabulous jewelry, here is a link to her website: https://goldschmiedehuhn.de/
