Our last day started with discomfort and pain: I finally got a shot in my knee that should kill the pain. Yesterday the orthopedist showed us the MRI that confirmed that the meniscus is torn. Unfortunately all the bits and pieces didn’t end up in the front of the knee behind the kneecap, where an arthroscopic surgery would be done, but in the back of the knee, where no surgery is possible. The only possible treatment is a shot in the knee, that should be repeated every 6 months. Usually they would recommend steroids, but unfortunately I’m allergic to cortisone…
As a little treat afterwards Ted and I drive to Algaida where we had lunch. We parked one block away from the town plaza and „collected“ all those shots from door knockers on our way back to the car…
Lori (and all of us) were treated to a fabulous dinner last night to celebrate her 66th birthday. Delicious treats, Sangria, tapas, paella and a tiramisu!

We also had mussels, Spanish potato salad, dates with bacon, spicy shrimp and seafood salad. We could have invited half of Montuiiri to help eat all this delicacies…..
In 1977 Udo Jürgens landed a big hit with his song „Mit 66 Jahren“. The text is a fun collection of ideas what to do once you turn 66, because „with 66 years life starts and is far from away from the end“ – happy birthday, Lori
The day we had spent in Llucmajor, a little town with a big church, actually the biggest church on Mallorca. There, my friends Alexandra & Wolfgang had remodeled / rebuilt a townhouse. They have exquisite taste and no shyness of choosing unusual, comfortable, creative details to make life fabulous! Rooftop terrace with a view to the massive church, floors throughout the 4 story house, that are not only heated for the winter, but cooled for the summer, walls of glass that just disappear with the push of a button, custom tiles in the modernista art nouveau style that we saw at Can Prunera, and the most pleasing color palette that Alexandra and I have in common: blues throughout every room!
Llucmajor is a very nice town, sleepy on Sundays, busy for the rest of the week. August is a quiet month because lots of Mallorcans are gone on vacation…
And here I am: still hobbling around with my crutches…
Last week we took a lovely day trip to Soller, roundtrip train from Palma and we loved it so much that we did it again! This time with our friends instead of our family and this time we enjoyed it – guess what – again!
Ted and Lori hop off the trainSo does MichaelLunch: sardines saladPimientos de pardon, melon with prosciutto.
Everybody (except me) walked down to Port de Soller, I took the tram 🥴
❤️
And back in Soller Ted and I visited Can Prunera, a beautiful Art Nouveau house that was transformed into an art museum.
This was the highlight of the day! Beautiful windows, furniture, staircases and those floors! Exquisite!!!
It reminded me of those Art Nouveau houses we saw in Ålesund, Norway. Same style, same attention to detail and designed down to the tiniest details! William Morris would be so proud!
On the 3rd floor of Can Prunera was an art exhibition: Salva Ginard
Mixed media collage portraits. Big. Expressive. Intense. Beautiful
We met Jürgen & family today before they fly back tomorrow morning and spend a nice day on the beach right by their hotel. Swimming in the ocean felt really nice, the sun, the sand, the thunderstorm! Yes, for about 30 minutes a big fat thunderstorm passed through, the sky opened and all the rain up there poured down. When it stopped, sun shine again! I love this weather!
What a jam packed day this was! It started super early with a hot air balloon ride that Ted and our friends Minnie, Jay and Michael took, starting in Manacor, flying to Alcudia and back to Petra. They were super excited and the photos are proof of a great adventure! Lori and I played housewives for a few hours; height is not my friend…..
The afternoon we spent in Sant Elm, visiting our friends Alexandra & Wolfgang, who call Mallorca home for 8 years now. We had a great time enjoying a late lunch on their balcony
On the way back we stopped at the clinic to get an MRI of my knee: results hopefully on Monday!
And because otherwise I would be seriously bored, I had to teach a late night Zoom class from 10pm-12am 🤩 : Intro to Fashion
I love markets! They remind me of „the olden days“, when farmers, artisans and tradespeople would meet once a week to offer their services and products. It would give them the opportunity not only to sell their work of course, but also to take a break from working in the fields, workshops or studios, it would give them the opportunity to make money and – what we all missed throughout the Covid lockdown, to socialize! All the cafes and restaurants have a busy day on market days, surrounding stores have a blast and the whole village or town is in a hype that is hard to describe.
Yesterday Ted and I went to Mallorcas biggest market that is held every Wednesday in Sineu, close to where we live! It was such a beautiful market spread all over the old town, along narrow cobblestone streets, in every little plaza and alleyway.
Young girls dress up, families schlepp their little kids around, old men sit in the surrounding cafes and watch…
Living animals (from little canary birds to ponies), dead animals (from prosciutto and salami to salted fish), fruits and vegetables, clothes and jewelry, toys and sweets, bags and shoes, sponges and spices, honey and olives, everything you can possibly imagine! We had a blast!
And, of course, market day makes hungry!
Peppers de patron, cheese, olives and bread…and a glass of cool white wine from this wine tasting room. The owner, a German woman, gave us 2 half full bottles of wine for free, because she felt bad of having sold all the wine we wanted
Having a flat tire is usually not a big problem, unless
1. you have a rental car that doesn’t have a spare tire
2. you reside in a vacation home that is out in the boonies with no address but coordinates
3. the rental car company tries to find you and is very busy that day
And when all the above things happen together, it takes 6 hours and 15min until they show up, evaluate the situation, pumping up the air and – send you back to the rental place to switch to another car.
🥴 poor Michael!
In the meantime: 😎
I realized that I never posted any photos of our beautiful vacation home. It is in the middle of the island on top of a little hill with gorgeous views. 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and a spacious open floorplan living-, dining room + kitchen. One of my favorite features is the ficus tree in the center; the other favorite are the huge glass sliding doors everywhere. that disappear into the walls
All 4 bedrooms have a great view with those magic doors
From the terrace into our bedroom. All floors are brushed concrete. I love that silky smooth surface! And last but not least: another one of those sunsets – after a rain shower they seem to be extra vibrant!
This is apparently the most beautiful port in the Mediterranean! I’m convinced…..
And another beautiful sunset! We can’t get enough of those ❤️
But everything has one end, only the sausage has two. Jürgen, Anja, Saskia, Tamara, Roberto and David are leaving today to stay another week at a hotel in Magaluf…..
Where is Magaluf?Suitcases are packed 🐻, Teddybär is strapped on, ready to go!
Jürgen acted as my designated companion, driver, entertainer and mood enhancer yesterday, spending a whole day with me visiting a doctor, a pharmacy and a hospital…..
Remember my blogpost about „firsts“ that I wrote at the beginning of our first cruise? The spider bit? Well, it came back, started itching again and getting bigger.
And then there is my knee. Stepping of a train would have been smarter than jumping off a train and twisting my knee at the same time. Ligaments and meniscus stuff. Need to see an orthopedic doctor this week. Until then, crutches, ice, painkillers…..
